Location

Positioned in a beautiful rural setting at St Algars Yard in West Woodlands in the outskirts of Frome, Somerset, we offer open access Fine Art printing in lithography, etching, relief and alternative photography techniques.

Our members offer a comprehensive range of courses in the studio aimed at instilling high quality output and professional practice for all students. 

We are non profit-making and self financing, dedicated to offering high quality facilities and equipment to all our members and students.

Facilities

In lithography, we offer facilities on stone, zinc plate and photolithography plates. Images on stone can be made up to approximately A3 in size, zinc and photo plate sizes up to A1.

Intaglio printing is on our Rochat Etching press (26’ x 48’) our Hunter Penrose Littlejohn (21’ x36’) and our Bewick and Wilson press with a bed size of 76 X 150cm. Members can produce plates for copper, zinc and steel plates up to A2 in size in our fume cupboard. Other intaglio techniques such as collagraph, photopolymer can be used on these presses, including large scale monoprinting.

With our Western proof press artists can produce relief printed images such as lino cuts and woodblocks up to A3 in size. We also have a selection of letterpress tools and equipment.

Alternative photography has seen a distinct renaissance in recent times, we have facilities for producing gum bichromate, gumoil, cyanotype, and photogravure prints up to A2 in size. We are developing a high quality digital negative output in the studio to aid the development of all alternative photography techniques.

We have consumable items such as paper and plates for sale in our stock room, for key holders all inks, chemicals and use of tools are covered in the membership.

Membership

We offer key holder membership with unlimited access to our facilities for just £40 per month, you will get your own drawer to store work.

We have associate membership which allows occasional studio use. Costs for associate membership is £80 per year, £30 per days use (8 hours) of the studio. 

Both Key holding and associate memberships are limited to ensure unfettered access to equipment of members.
